Design Development
Working as the lead designer; developing the overall design concept and mood board, interior rendering, creating design development documents, coordinating with contractor on budgetary constraints
With the inspiration of Georgian architecture, this mood board captures the essence of the style while modernizing the features to seamlessly coordinate with other buildings on campus.
With a light and airy feel, the central atrium serves as a student hub. Features of coffered ceilings and wood trim work reference the Georgian architectural style. The floor pattern pulls students to the center of the space, where they will be able to look up and see the oculus of the dome 5 stories up.
The second floor atrium space continues the open sightlines within the space and provides students with pockets of space to connect and study.
Student study spaces are emphasized with the use of arched wainscotting and a bold punch of blue. When reviewing this rendering, the president of the university said that he "appreciated the intentionality of the arches in this application".
Arched seating nooks down the corridors create moment of pause for students waiting to go into their next class. The floor pattern carries from the central atrium down the corridors to encourage students to move further into the building and explore additional spaces.
Wanting to create a big design impact within a small space, the restrooms of this building feature tile wainscotting on all walls and a patterned feature flooring. The mirrors continue the reference to arches that carries throughout the design. Sleek all-in-one faucets include soap dispensers and hand dryers, accommodating the university's goal of becoming paper-towel free.
