Prompt for the studio: Develop an innovative sustainable dining experience that builds upon the slow food movement with the goal of the experience to nourish the mind and body through food and education to create both environmental and social change.
Our mission for this project is to create hands-on experiences for high schoolers to discover educational, personal, and professional opportunities working with food.
We are proposing a design for a rooftop garden lab and pop-up experience in the parking lot of East High School where students will learn to grow, prepare, and sell their own food.
Students will walk away with an understanding of gardening, fresh produce, and experience as a food vendor.
We are focusing on the area surrounding East High School in Columbus, Ohio for our concept.
EHS is in an area with few options for fresh food, and there are no farmers markets located in the Near East area, which made East High school an excellent location for our pilot program concept.
EHS is also located near Franklin Park Conservatory — an organization that provides education in gardening and horticulture. In partnering with the conservatory, students will have direct access to experts in the field.
