Construction Administration
Serving as a supporting designer; working on visioning and design concept, floor plan development, design development, interior renderings, coordination with experiential graphic team, construction documentation, coordination with MEP and structural consultants, reviewing submittals and responding to RFIs.
Through multiple client-driven visioning sessions, these criteria were developed as the main drivers behind the design.
The design criteria established during the visioning sessions created the foundation for the design concept. Image sorts and Likert scales provided aesthetic guidelines that led to the curation of this mood board.
This project consisted of a co-location between a nursing school and the hospital corporation which owns the nursing school. My firm worked solely on the nursing school, and a separate architectural firm was responsible for the hospital corporation spaces, which were designed for continuing education for nurses. My firm's responsibility included the building core & shell, the left side of the building on the first floor, and the entire third floor.
The curvature of the entry creates a soft inviting environment to welcome students, faculty and guests alike. Safety is a big client concern, so all building users must badge-in to access the building. With this security concern, we elected to place the admissions/enrollment space before reaching the security checkpoint, allowing guests to meet with a staff member and be guided through the buildin
Past reception, the "living room" area provides a comfortable space for students to hang out. Comfortable lounge furniture in a fireplace setting creates the living room-feeling, which the community table provides a space for groups of all sizes to convene.
The student lounge features a wide variety of seating choices to accommodate different student preferences. The central lounge setting creates a hub of activity and community within the space, while other settings provide more individualized experiences. Display cases within the space allow nursing artifacts collected by the college.
The faculty/staff break area welcomes employees with an inspiring quote, and features lounge settings as well as hoteling spaces.
A major concern of the faculty was the lack of private offices. This lounge setting was developed as a means to create separation and a sense of privacy within the open workstations. Phone rooms were also utilized to create neighborhoods within the workspace.
